Underwater Rebar Rust Stain Repair, Before and After
More underwater rebar rust stain repairs! Six pictures for you today showing the steps of a repair. As you can see this was a rebar rust stain about two inches wide, the customer noticed a smaller stain last fall and it continued to grow to the size we see here. As I started to dig into the stain I noticed the rust and rotted shotcrete was coming up at an angle to where I was digging. I tracked the rust to the rebar which was about three inches deep in the shotcrete. The second pictures shows the roughed out opening and where I stopped after I found clean rebar. Look at how intense the rust was in the center of this picture and in the third picture. This piece of steel is completely dissolved and the rust has affected the surrounding shotcrete. I cleaned up the edges of my rough opening and cut out the offending steel, shotcrete and plaster. This is now ready for the patch. The last picture shows the finished patch and a small leaf near one of the edges. The total dimensions of this patch is 12 x 6 inches. This repair took about an hour and fifteen minutes. By the way the water temp in this pool was 59° which was a little warmer than the cool rainy day we woke up to this morning. I can’t wait till its 105+°
